This local gem specializes in authentic Mexican seafood dishes that burst with fresh, bold flavors and inventive twists. Whether you’re craving something spicy, savory, or refreshingly tangy, the menu here is a carefully curated celebration of coastal cuisine that awakens your palate with every bite.

The energy is infectious, with friendly staff ready to guide you through their extensive selection, ensuring every dish suits your taste buds. The aroma of grilled seafood mingles with the hint of habanero hot sauce—a perfect prelude to the meal ahead.

The standout dishes truly showcase their culinary expertise. The Grilled Seafood Quesadilla offers a smoky, cheesy delight loaded with generous portions of fresh fish and shrimp, balanced beautifully with the zing of their signature Habanero Hot Sauces and Salt. For a lighter, yet equally satisfying option, the Ceviche El Submarino and the Ceviche Tropical deliver bright, citrusy notes accented by vibrant peppers and herbs, making each bite refreshing and addictive.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Torres La Chaparrita, a layered seafood tower starring ceviche de pescado, tender pulpo, creamy avocado, and a crisp fried shrimp—all together for a dynamic mix of textures and ocean-fresh flavors. Another must-try is the Grilled Octopus Taco with Avocado, where perfectly charred octopus meets silky avocado in a taco that’s rich, smoky, and utterly memorable.

Seafood soups like the Caldo Mixto, simmered with shrimp, fish, and octopus alongside fresh vegetables, and the Caldo De Camaron offer warming comfort with a sophisticated, briny depth. Each dish is crafted with an unapologetic attention to freshness and authenticity that reflects the true spirit of Mexican coastal cooking.

Customers rave about Mariscos El Submarino for good reason. Luis Cintron shares how this place became his top choice on scorching summer nights when all he craved was something cold and revitalizing. Dave Ruan emphasizes the flawless freshness and variety, especially highlighting the grilled shrimp as a “must-try.” And for first-timers like ReedH, the experience transports you to a vibrant Mexican fishing village, full of sunshine, fresh sea breeze, and a feast that delights the senses.

While the music's lively volume occasionally challenges conversation, the warmth of the staff and the quality of the dishes more than compensate, crafting an inviting space where everyone—from seafood aficionados to casual diners—can indulge in an unforgettable meal. If you haven’t yet explored the flavors of Mariscos El Submarino, you’re missing out on one of Queens’ best-kept culinary treasures.

I’ve lived in Queens for the past 14 years and can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place—thank goodness for Yelp! It was a 100-degree day, and I was craving something cold and refreshing for dinner. I searched for ceviche in Elmhurst, and this was the first spot to pop up. After reading all the glowing reviews, I had to give it a try. I went around 8:30 PM with two friends. Despite the place being pretty full, we were seated right away. The air conditioning was a lifesaver, and the restaurant had a nice open, beachy vibe. It honestly felt like we were sitting at a seaside bar and grill in Puerto Rico, complete with white plastic chairs that added to the laid-back atmosphere. Now to the best part—the food. We ordered the Aguachile Mixto in green sauce, grilled shrimp, ceviche, fish tacos, octopus tacos, the Gobernador taco, and micheladas. Everything came out in under 10 minutes and was absolutely spectacular. The Aguachile was packed with shrimp, fish, octopus, and cucumbers—everything was fresh and bursting with flavor. The green sauce had a perfect zesty lime kick. It came with crispy tortillas that you break up and use to scoop the aguachile—such a great touch. I absolutely loved this dish. The grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection, split open and full of that smoky grilled flavor. A squeeze of lime made them even better! The Gobernador taco was another standout—loaded with fresh seafood, cheese, and a savory sauce that made it impossible to put down. The ceviche was generous, fresh, and just as delicious. The micheladas? Easily some of the best I’ve ever had. Whatever they put on the rim of the glass was the perfect complement to the drink, and paired perfectly with the seafood. We all ended up ordering a second round. Our server was attentive and friendly, checking in just enough to make sure we had everything we needed. I didn’t expect this place to be this good, but it blew us away. It turned three hot, grumpy, and annoyed people into happy, full, and jolly ones by the end of the night. I’ll definitely be coming back—again and again!

A delightful discovery! Fresh seafood and good service set this spot apart. We tried a little of everything (maybe too much!), and it was all delicious. You can't go wrong here for lunch or dinner. The grilled shrimp is a must-try!

I always see a line in front of restaurant and wonder how good the restaurant. My husband and I finally went yesterday and it was as good as it gets or actually even better than what I expect. The seafood and drinks were so good that I will be coming back for sure to try other items on the menu. I also had the shrimp taco. You have to eat that. It was worth it. I saw someone eat the octopus taco and the tuna dish. It looked so good that I want to try that next time I go.

The food is absolutely amazing! I’ll be back to try more items on the menu. I do think that the seafood dishes taste better than the non seafood ones. The staff are very friendly too, prepared us well with good recommendations. Only thing I would suggest is to turn the music a little bit down. It’s a bit difficult to hear each other.

Finally made it to Mariscos El Submarino, and I’m kicking myself for not coming sooner. This place is a total gem and the perfect spot for a summer lunch. The atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a seaside town in Mexico—casual, lively, and full of energy. I started with the aguachile verde, which was delicious. The shrimp were super fresh and the sauce had a bright, vibrant heat that really hit the spot. The el gobernador was another standout—lightly crisped, stuffed with shrimp and melted cheese, and very satisfying. And their michelada is one of the best I’ve had. Whatever’s in their spice mix is magic. I’ll definitely be back!

Every time I’ve been here I’m never disappointed. I’ve tried their fish and octopus tacos which are delicious. Agua chile verde and negro I prefer the negro it’s just too tier but both are delicious. Their cóctel I liked the first time but not as much the second time but I ma have ordered the wrong one still good but more tomato/ketchup flavor. Their grilled shrimp with the head on has an amazing char grill flavor. And I’ve had their ceviche el submarino which is delicious just the juice of that ceviche is much milder just lime. And their ceviche tropical is so spicy but addictive I couldn’t stop eating it. I will be going back to try their Torres and tostadas. But I would recommend aguachile negro, ceviche el submarino, half dozen grilled shrimp and the fish and octopus taco.

The seafood was incredibly fresh, from the ceviche to the grilled shrimp , and each plate was beautifully presented. The portions were generous, and the balance of spices and citrus made every bite unforgettable.

Worth the wait! Lots of options to choose from and the seafood did taste very fresh. I would say we enjoyed the ceviche more than the aguachile. Thought the aguachile could have used a little more salt, spice levels were great ok everything. Best thing was the shrimp taco.
